Two things I did not know: Pizza Printer & Euclid the Artist These are excerpts from Euclid's Manuscripts at the U of British Columbia. Looking at them I realized that the man was as much an artist as mathematical genius. True master of the construction and deconstruction of form. From Picasso to countless artists across many disciplines, this basic tenet has held true. You can preserve essential qualities of objects while reconstructing them in a way seemingly unrecognizable, yet still true to their identity. Link to U of BC
This printer prints smells! It has cartridges just like ink cartridges but with Pizza, Popcorn, and much much more! When you put in a DVD to play on the screen, it decodes the images of foods and different things and provides the smells while you watch! Or rock it stand alone! Read more on Design Addict...
Ground is broken on Virgin Galactic Spaceport! It's crazy that something like this is happening in my lifetime. Its a freaking spaceport for crying out loud! Branson manages to make another big idea into a reality (with help of tons of government financing mind you!) Will be done and running in 2011 and its LEED certified (gotta go green when your going big in the future!) Full Inhabitat Article

Dope LED Pendant Lamp by Christian Harrup Light 4 is an exploratory exercise in trying to understand the iconic nature of objects through their form. Christian Harrup wanted the design to be unique, functional, and memorable. The main structure of this pendant lamp is made of injection moulded polycarbonate and uses high resolution LED’s or linear fluorescents concealed behind a polycarbonate lens. Simple and totally feasible. The shape lends well to a fashion studio thanks to the inherent “hanger” form. Continue

Lou Diamond Phillips survives Costa Rican Jungle - crowned king of TV show: "I'm a Celebrity get me out of here" I've been fighting for this since the late 80's. I always wanted him to get some award for the best of the B-List. He's put in his time, and finally got his recognition! Link

Drudge assured me I had missed a lot this weekend! I mean look at these headlines. All in one page I have to deal with unrest in Iran (which needs to be supported - this dictatorship needs to be overtaken - the people don't want war - the crazy leader does), N. Korea getting loco, Afghanistan violence, Swine flu fear mongering, Acorn and their garbage (how and why are they still operational?) (Click image to enlarge) The Smuggle of all Smuggles: Alarmism or Legit Worry? If you missed the $134 BILLION in US bonds that were almost smuggled to Switzerland - this is a great read. That's more than the gross domestic product of Singapore by the way! Border guards in Chiasso see plenty of smugglers and plenty of false-bottomed suitcases, but no one in the town, which straddles the Italian-Swiss frontier, had ever seen anything like this. Trussed up in front of the police in the train station were two Japanese men, and beside them a suitcase with a booty unlike any other. Concealed at the bottom of the bag were some rather incredible sheets of paper. The documents were apparently dollar-denominated US government bonds with a face value of a staggering $134bn (£81bn).
How on earth did these two men, who at first refused to identify themselves, come to be there, trying to ride the train into Switzerland carrying bonds worth more than the gross domestic product of Singapore? If the bonds were genuine, the pair would have been America's fourth-biggest creditor, ahead of the UK and just behind Russia. No sooner had the story leaked out from the Italian lakes region last week than it sparked a panoply of conspiracy tales. But one resounded more than any other: that the men were agents of the Japanese finance ministry, in the country for the G8 meeting, making a surreptitious journey into Switzerland to sell off one small chunk of the massive mountain of US bonds stacked up in the Japanese Treasury vaults.Continue reading....
Times Reporter David Rohde escapes Taliban after 7 months of captivity David Rohde, a New York Times reporter who was kidnapped by the Taliban escaped Friday night and made his way to freedom after more than seven months of captivity in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mr. Rohde was part of The Times’s reporting team that won a Pulitzer Prize this spring for coverage of Afghanistan and Pakistan last year. Until now, the kidnapping has been kept quiet by The Times and other media organizations out of concern for the men’s safety. Link: NY Times
New Mexico breaks ground on commercial spaceport. I first looked over this headline but soon found that it was pretty monumental stuff i was glancing at.Flights for Virgin Galactic will start in 2 years. That's nuts. Man vs Wild - Bear Grylls Costa Rica 3 He goes to the deep jungle - puro selva as they say en Español. This is far south near Panama - real loco. He was at the Dos Equiss event last week but so were 4000 people haha, so it was not so cool nor did he have to eat any weird stuff or survive much more than a hoard of drunks trying to get to the bar.

Nimiety \nih-MY-uh-tee\, noun: The state of being too much; excess.
A buddy of mine subscribes to Dictionary.com's word of the day. Today's was great. Says a lot about our society!
Daily Double has a Latin Twist Today... This is a great song you may have heard a while back. I didn't realize what the subject matter was until I saw the video, and its really pretty amazing what Cuban immigrants went through and the tyranny they fled. Everyone complains about the US and our leaders, take a look what socialist leader's like Chavez & Castro do to their people and then try to complain. The reality of socialism is far away from the beautiful ideas it paints. Our health care plan looks good on paper too until you see the lines in countries like Canada and Costa Rica, and the inability to get treated for months!

Event Tonight My friends put together an event for Dos Equis XX. Bear Grylls and other survivalists will be there. Bear Grylls is the man and got that name from his kid sister. Survival is important so keep your ears wide open. (Also included: 3 Birds of prey, 1 Culinary entomologist, 3 Black Belts, a billiard champion, 3 ping pong Olympic gold medalists etc.) You get the idea, not your typical gathering. Also Questlove performing which is awesome. The Most Interesting Academy is the world's premier institution for the education and dissemination of the study of Being Interesting.
Located in the south of France, or in Thailand, or possibly on a barge off the coast of the Svalbard Islands, it was founded in an unknown year by a group of fascinating people whose names have been lost to history (probably intentionally).
Home to Legends
Allegedly, its alumni have included the likes of a certain writer-adventurer-recluse, a Dutch dancer-spy, a politician-conservationist wielding a big stick, and many an inventor-savant. The school's most recognizable alumnus is of course, Distinguished Emeritus, Grand Benefactor and Patron Sage, the gentlemen known only as The Most Interesting Man in the World.
Of course, all of the above is open for debate. Most facts about the Academy are not exactly public knowledge. That is part of its legendary charm. All we can tell you is that there's an antler room, and underground tunnels, and a beer fountain.

Holey Concrete Batman! This is pervious concrete and its actually awesome as it solves a major engineering and construction dilemma - how to handle run-off. It's expensive and if done poorly can force you to redo your entire road which is one of the more expensive aspects of the development process. Read full article at Inhabitat

After looking at Drudge briefly tonight and seeing what's going on in the world, I realized I needed some humor to cheer me up. I don't like to politic to much on the public forum (and I won't), but between the economy & lunatic regimes with weapons, I figured a laugh was due. Enjoy and have a good day. PS If you're not in the mood to laugh or are super busy, don't bother as these next 3 clips will be a huge waste of your time. My good friend Jeff sent this next one to me, and had me cracking up for a minute! Warning: if you don't like bad words or are some super sensitive nut job, Steven Segal clip is very inappropriate).
I know, I thought the same thing as you did - we need Steven Segal setting our foreign policy and we'll be just fine. He doesn't take crap from nobody!
Extremely weird video - Amongst the weirdest I've seen. Not a great song either - just weird and made me laugh.
This was sent to me by a friend who really appreciates the 80's and early 90's in full glory and celebrates the amazing achievements of the time. This video is one such achievement. Wow. Absolutely incredible and so ahead of their time - borderline genius haha.
Interactive Pod Bed I had to include this - its the future. You cannot risk being uniformed about the future. And yes any future with this bed in your daily use is awesome. Curtains, TV screen, lighting, and it can remember you! Imagine a network of interactive multimedia beds—located in hotels and airport lounges around the world—that would automatically know your favorite music, your travel schedule and your television preferences.
Creating that network is the ambitious goal of Yoo-Pod Ltd. and their Somnus-Neu project, named after the ancient Roman god of sleep but billed as “the future of beds.” And with all of these beds’ high tech features it is easy to see why.
SoHo Loses Iconic DKNY Mural Photographed by what must be millions of tourists, the New York mural at the entrance to SoHo on the corner of Houston Street and Broadway has been painted over. We’d assume that this was probably done at the request of Hollister - the new store leasing space in the building.
I've seen this mural since childhood and thought it was a protected landmark or something of the sort. I am upset how ingrained in my head it became, passing by it so many times and not even paying attention or noticing it since it was always there. Now that its gone I wish I stopped and appreciated it more often, but I guess that goes for many things in life...

Some musical enjoyment... Empire of the Sun is great but the video scares me. The second video by DJ Vadim is a ridiculous video. Read the blurb about him below his video... “If you want to make beautiful music, you must play the black and the white notes together.” [Richard M. Nixon] Not many – if any – musical biographies open with quotations from Richard M. Nixon. But DJ Vadim, a.k.a. the John Coltrane of hip hop, ain’t exactly your average ’round-the-way’ producer. A veteran traveller and quality purveyor of head-nodding beats, Vadim has 4 solo albums, 2 group albums (One Self; The Isolationist), a remix album, countless mix tapes/CDs, EPs, remixes plus a slew of 12s and 7s under his heavyweight belt. Needless to say, though producer/DJ’s these days are a dime-a-dozen, a veteran like Vadim is not the kind o’ cat to release 12 tracks of the latest in-vogue soul loop. In fact his new album, “U Can’t Lurn Imaginashun” is one of the sickest joints on the block, continuing – and embellishing – the producer’s inventive journey into the realm of sound. Anyone that knows anything about Vadim knows to expect the unexpected, and “UCLI” has surprises – and dopeness – in abundance. – via Paris DJ
